Chapter Zero — An Important Introduction
A long time ago, in a backyard not much different from yours or mine, there sat a beautiful pond. The pond was a lush place where all kinds of little creatures lived. There were flying critters and swimming ones—jumping insects and crawling ones. Some lived in the water while others made their homes on the land.
On the far side of the waters (which was arguably the nicest part) lived a group of remarkable ants who made their homes near the beaches of this great pond. You and I might have thought it was just a small and peaceful pond, but to this civilization of tiny Fire-Ants, this pond was the greatest (and most terrible) sea in the world.
